Setting off at last - the first leg took me from Brisbane to Sydney and on to Hong Kong. A five hour stop there and I thought I was really tired. I used the time to review my itinerary and I realised I was less than half the way there. An 11 hour flight into Istanbul for my 17 hour stopover. I was provided with a hotel room for the day - not the ritzy Ambassador hotel in these pics (they were just teasing me, but a welcome bed and shower!)

I had a snooze and then headed out to see some sights. Wouldn't you know it - I met an Aussie Traveller (the only person I spoke to). And he was from Coorparoo!

I managed to catch a concert, see a church, an ancient water cistern, take a train across town and have a local meal. A great day.

I almost got lost wandering around a suburb near the city walls and feared I would miss my transport to the airport! But I was just misreading the time.

I flew out at 11pm to arrive in Tehran at 3am.
