Update Emails and Private Blogs

I've looked at a whole bunch of sites to use for what might turn into a two year adventure, lavishly (but selectively, you'll be pleased to note) illustrated with pictures. From my vantage point in a non-airconditioned internet cafe in Laos, I can't see any way to alert friends and those who were rash enough to say "keep in touch" to trip report updates, and also wonder if you can limit viewers to an invited guest list. It's getting to hot to search further so your help would be appreciated.

Nice looking site, by the way.

I feel your pain, having been forced to do my 2004 tax return from an internet cafe in Vang Vieng!

We don't have any way to spam your friends with a mass email directly from the site, so you'd have to resort to actually sending them a link. (Yours would be http://www.blogabond.com/Wyndham ).

And as of now, all our blogs are publicly available. If this is a priority, there are a few sites out there that will give you private space for a monthly fee (TravelPod charges $40/year and are worth checking out), but I can't think of any off hand that would do it for free.

So yeah, No on both points. I hope you find what you're looking for before dying from heat exhaustion. And if you decide to stick around, I look forward to hearing from you on the road!

Thanks for your reply - guess I can set up a list in Yahoo to mail out the link when something changes and I undertand the point about private blogs.

Yeah, that's the problem with free stuff on the web. The only way anybody can afford to do it is to stick ads on the content. If the content is hidden from the general public, it can't ever pay for itself in ad revenue. Kinda lame, but that's the way it is.

We're a little lucky with Blogabond in that we don't have payroll to meet or investors to keep happy, so we can keep the ads down to the minimum needed to keep the server running. So far, that's meant that we can get away with not putting any ads on people's home pages or blogs.

Hope you stick around!
