Melbourne city

Melbourne, Australia

I have come to Australia for work and staying in Melbourne. I want to cover as many places as possible before I leave this place. So far I have been to Cairns and Portsea.

Perth

Perth, Australia

Perth is one of Australia's best tourist spots which is also the capital of Western Australia. Perth is also considered Australia's sunniest capital. On the West Bank of the Swan River, one can see the beautiful city.

Perth was discovered in 1829 by convicts heading to the area around the labour shortage. Then, Perth grew and bloomed during the 1890's due to discovery of gold. Today, the modern Perth has many stunning buildings, museums, churches, and skycrapers. Perth also offers great nightlife. The most popular nightlife area in the city is Northbridge which contains several nightclubs, restaurants, and bars.

Perth is also known for its beaches. One can find surfing excitement in Floreat, Leighton, Scarborough, Port, and Trigg Island, to name a few. Perth also has calmer beaches located in Peppermint Grove, Como, or Crawley.

As summer is fast approaching, Perth remains a superb tourist destination. Perth is undeniably a city to simply relax and enjoy.

Yongala: The Best Dive

Townsville, Australia

Diving has been my passion and it brings me so much happiness watching the underwater beauty. I've always been fascinated with shipwrecks as well, and stimulates my imagination. I never encountered such beauty when I saw Yongala.

One of the best dive spots I've ever been to was the Yongala in Australia. It is the site of a shipwreck in Queensland, which sank during a cyclone in 1911 killing 122 people. From a distance, the Yongala outlined magnificent corals. Unerwater life was abundant. Throughout my diving career, never have I experienced deep sea creatures like turtles, sea snakes, Manta rays, tiger sharks, bull sharks, colorful fish and coral so beautiful. The feeling was very breathtaking and haunting at the same time, realizing that many people have perished there.

This is my best dive so far, and I feel a great sense of achievement. I would recommend every diver to schedule a dive in Yongala.

Great Barrier Reef

Cairns, Australia

Behold the largest barrier reef in the whole world. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most beautiful places to visit in yur lifetime. It is situated at the tip of Queensland. I have only gone here once, and I have been truly impressed with it.

The Great Barrier Reef is an ideal place to people of all ages. Snorkeling and diving are the most popular activites. The crystal clear water makes it a haven for scuba divers, where they can the enjoy underwater view. Colorful corals and exotic animals are the foundation of the Great Barrier Reef. The reef is home to a large variety of species and corals that live underwater, such as dugong, turtles, fish, mollusc, whales, and sharks. More than two million people visit the Great Barrier Reef each year, making it a premier site.

The Great Barrier Reef is the experience of a lifetime. I can not wait to come back to this marine life paradise.

The Final Countdown...

Victoria, Canada

I woke up this morning to a new reality...I'm on leave from work until November 2. Another new reality quickly took over...only 19 days until my departure date - April 5. Excitement and nerves make a strong cocktail!

Our planning started years ago when my rugby club decided to tour New Zealand in 2009. Norma and I heard opportunity knocking, and we have planned a seven-month journey together through NZ, Samoa and Australia.

I arrive in NZ with Ebb Tide RFC April 7 for a three-week six-game tour of the country where rugby is king. Norma arrives April 21 and will join the group for the final days of the tour - brave girl! We start our own adventures after we see the group off to Canada April 26.

Today is 'T minus 19 and counting'...not much time to tie up loose ends so I'd better get at it!

I have been away for a year......

Luxor, Egypt

Well, it was my one year anniversary since i left australia last week. I didnt celebrate, Perhaps i should of. Sometimes i feel there is alot to celebrate by being out of my birth country. Other times i miss it so much that i feel like running back as soon as possiable.
I have seen and done many things in this past year. I have lived and worked in Egypt, I have travelled Europe. Italy were i saw the best artworks in the world. France were I saw the best shows. London were i had the best time with old friends, and listened to the greatest live bands in the lousiest pubs in the lowest suburbs.
I have seen so many different cultures and customs, listened to the langauges of the world and walked all the back streets i could. Tryed not to miss a thing. Although i miss home.

Back at work now, and that brings its own problems. New paint on the walls, a new season of problems and excitment with sadness to follow.

Plans

Gisborne, New Zealand

Shall we do this? Can we do this? Should we do this? Fletch is still at home as he didn't end up going to uni as planned, We have stable jobs in a unstable economy, we have very limited finances! We have a grandchild due in July this year.
BUT .... if we don't go now we are fearful we never will.
So we decided we could start in Oz, return home for our grandchild's birth (Go Karl and Sarah!) and then go further afield.

We have heard of couples who get jobs care-taking and housesitting - how do you do this? where do you start? So I started with - yes you know it - Google!; found some housesitting websites and took pot luck at creating a profile on 4 of them. I avoided the ones that charged on-going fees or expensive registrations and went with the sites that looked professional.
I began with just getting "us" on them and then downloaded references, got police clearances and feedback from our holiday unit we have run for past 2 years.

We talked a bit with friends who had friends who had caretaked (sp)! in Europe and read feedback from the housesitting sites. Spent quite a few hrs looking at potential housesitting places mainly in Europe and applying to any that appealed. We eventually heard back from 2 in Australia and began email correspondence....
