Request: Update many photo cities at once

I usually upload groups of photos all taken in the same city and I like to fill in the city name so that the cool clickable maps can be used to find the photos.

However, the CityNameService can be very slow sometimes so it takes ages to update all the photos.

Would it be possible to include an option at the top, say, "All photos are in the same city" for any upload batch, so that you could select the city only once -- at the top?

It would make my life much happier :-)

Actually it makes sense to set them all to the same trip as well, rather than having to set that for loads of pictures.

I'll just start tagging the photos with place names instead of using the city lookup. My nerves can't take the delays any more! I suppose that's why so many people do tag with place names instead using the city lookup.

Yeah, that tool is less fun than it should be. I'll give it some attention when I get a free minute (which is rarely at the moment).

I'll keep you posted.

OK, I've made a change that should speed up the photo tagger in your case.

Under each photo, you should now see a "copy city & trip from above" link. So now you need only select a city & trip for the top photo, then click that link for the rest of them.

It's not perfect, but it should be a lot faster this way.

I think the approach you've taken is great. It might not be perfect, but it's pretty close imo.

However... there is a bug I mentioned to you a while back, where you couldn't update the cities of photos beyond the first page (i.e. after the first 50). This still seems to be a problem. It looks like there updating and I happily went through a couple of pages before going back to check when I realised that none had actually been saved.

It looked great, but still not quite there...

Oh - and by the way, the trip builder is still really slow... did you ever drop that into live?

Sorry for nagging :-D

Nagging is good. I had actually forgotten about that >50 issue. I'll see if I can break off some time next week to deal with these things.

Hey, the Trip Builder should finally be fast. Give it a try and let me know if it's still giving you grief.

Well done, that seems to work a treat! What did you do?

It wasn't being all that savvy in deciding what actually needed to be saved, so it was just going through each stop and saving it again whether it needed to or not.

Naturally, if you only change the last stop on a trip, you don't need to go back and mess with any of the earlier ones. It's smart enough to figure that out now.
