Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

We planned this trip months in advance and primarily had interests in the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Little did we know, we were about to embark on a beautiful country filled with wonderful people, delicious food, prestine landscapes and mountainous challenges.

We arrived into a humid Kota Kinabalu. We walked the local streets to get our first taste of a confronting culture. To me, the streets and smells were very simlar to China town in Australia. Except the people seemed to be very laid back, enjoying their food and karaoke! This made me feel quite comfortable. Chris, however, was taken back by it all. But after settling in, and visitng a close friend of mine at a 5star resort (which was a few stars higher than what we were staying in), he felt better. We all enjoyed our dinner by the waterfront and it was great to catch up with friends in a different part of the world.

At the end of the day, we were very much looking forward to the next and meeting our fellow Intrepid travellers.

A Glimpse of Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

Today we started with an English breakfast (because we missed it already)! We then shopped around for last minute items before our tour began. Lunch again was at the waterfront. After which, Chris and I headed to the Sabah Museum. The skeleton of a whale shark took my breath away. The heritage village was also enjoyable; until I was eaten by mozzies.

That afternoon we prepared for our tour meeting. We had dinner and drinks at a food market and Chris was very keen to choose his meal - a red snapper fresh from the fish tank! We then headed off and drank with the locals at a Filipino bar. Lucky for us, they were football enthusiasts so the streets were quite lively with a football match being broadcasted in the center of the markets.

We're both looking forward to the trip ahead. Our tour was a small group filled with a mix of age levels and personalities but we all had one thing in common: to really enjoy our time and to get as much out of this experience as possible.
