G'day Sydney

The 9 hour flight from Mumbai to Sydney couldn't really have been any better, we had 2 seats each and the time flew, literally. We say it couldn't have gone any better....it would have been nice if, after 5 months of curries, Quantas didn't serve us curry for breakfast after curry for evening...

A New Year!

We arrived in Sydney to discover Karl had pulled out all the stops and booked us into the best hostel in the city, complete with roof top pool! On the first day we hit Bondi beach and remarkably managed to find Karl and also randomly bumped into the Irish guys that we met in Cambodia! That night...

Sydney to Gladstone

This was our last morning in Sydney so it was back to the packing and sorting for Karen. Shaun took the children out to have a go on a bungee trampoline where they both did a backflip! Shaun bought himself a Digereedo and was shown in the shop how to play it - so there should be some interesting...

To start the day off we went to the Maritime Museum where we saw the Captain Cook ship called The Endeavour. New Years Eve (Part 1)

After our late night we didn't wake up until 10am, so it was off for breakfast, whilst seated at the restaurant two very familiar people walked by taking photos (see picture). The big floppy hats, untanned bodies socks under sandals - surely it couldn't be Grandad Bill and Grandad Two? We will...

New Years Eve (Part 2)

We booked tickets at the Taronga Zoo so that we could watch the fireworks from a good Vantage point and the views were well worth it and because it wasn't too crowded we all got a good view as we got to sit in the amphitheatre that overlooks the harbour.Word of warning to anyone wanting to do...

Christmaaaaas time

Got to Sydney on the 23rd and have been staying at a YHA in Glebe. A trip to The Blue Mountains was well worth it for the amazing views. Spent Christmas eve with Hannah in a couple of bars in The Rocks area, then Christmas day we had a BBQ at our hostel (with not just Turkey, but kanagroo too!)...

Karl Goes It Alone

Meanwhile, as Dan and Sean checked out the sights in Brisbane, Surfer's Paradise, and Byron Bay, Karl flew to Sydney on his own to meet up with Pam. The early arrival in Sydney gave Karl a break from the backpacker life for a short while: hostels were replaced by smart hotels; beans on toast...
