Wind Jumping in Ljubljana
First time in
Ljubljana
(and in
Slovenia
in general). We climbed the castle and its
Tower
to get a view of the city and surroundings. Ideal place for a basic jumping picture. That was without taking the wind into consideration. The result ? A perfect haircut while jumping :-)
I really enjoyed
Slovenia
. It is a little country (2 M. inhabitants) with a great variety of landscapes from the big Alp mountains to the adreatic sea beaches. Food also reflects this duality with strong and heavy traditional dishes perfects for cold
Winters
but cooked with "latin" influences (tomatoes, pesto, olive oil). Yummy yummy !
Main language is indeed
Slovenia
n (which is a slave language, hence quite complex) but Italian is also widely spoken.

Jumping Around Cluj Napoca
Cluj-Napoca
,
Romania
Taking advantage of a very cheap Wizzair flight to
Cluj-Napoca
, I ended up spending a weekend in this little city in northern
Romania
along with Sylvain.
I must admit my total lack of culture and confess that I didn't even know about the name of this city before booking the tickets. After some little digging, you'll learn that
Cluj-Napoca
it located in Transylvania, famous for Dracula and other dark stories. Maybe this is why they have the strongest Garlic sauce I ever tasted ?
Jumping in front of Saint Michael church and Mathias Corvinus statue
The city in itself is quiet during the day but become very lively at night as this is mostly a student city. Compared to the rainy & grey weather in Paris at the same time, it was a real relief to be spending a weekend in a sunny place like this.

Jumping in Mauritius
Port Louis
,
Mauritius
This was almost a thermal shock. Right after the Artic
Circle
expedition I had to jump into another plane and spend a few weeks in
Mauritius
Island for business related reasons. Business is business but weekends are weekends and sometimes you even manage not to work on weekends ! These moments are precious and every little jump count.
My client was there also and my mauritian colleagues took us out with their families on a Saturday for a road trip in the southern part of the Island. I couldn't resist but introduce them to the Jumping Tradition ! :-)

Jumping in Deer Island (L'ile aux Cerf)
Mauritius
at this time of the year is awesome. Everage temperature is 28°C (sea water at 26°C), paradise island with many colorful animals, cheerful people, tropical fruits and white sand beaches. As one would say: what else ?

Back to where it all began: jumping in Oslo and Happy New 2011 !
Oslo
,
Norway
On December 27th, 2008 I was in Oslo and shot the first Jumping Picture of the serie. Two years later, i'm back jumping there !
Jumping around Oslo
During these two years: dozens of countries, hundreds of jumps from France to Canada, from Andalucia to Russia, from Ireland to China.
As i'm writing this (Feb 2011), I'm currently in
Mauritius
Island. That will be the first jumping pic from the southern hemisphere! And what about in two years from now ? I guess many more jumps, travels and backpacking indeed !
There are so many places yet to discover, so many people to meet, so many languages to discover and food to try. It would be a pity of stopping now, wouldn't it ?
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011... and JUMP ! :-)

Jumping above the Artic Circle for finishing 2010
Tromso
,
Norway
After Christmas, I flew over to Norway with friends to go
Chase
Northern Lights and ride dog sleds above the Artic
Circle
. We chose
Tromso
as our basecamp.
Tromso
at this time of the year is magic: no more sun, but just 3 or 4 hours of low light everyday. Snow everywhere, many islands, few people, good weather most of the time we were there. You end up sleeping 12+ hours a day (which in my case is nothing new, but for other people can be quite disturbing!) and enjoying the little light we had as a precious moments.
We did see and shoot some amazing Northern Lights. But by the time we figured out how to take a jumping pic under them (tripod, long exposure, additionnal flash synchronised with the jump)... they were gone. Next time we'll be ready !
The picture below was taken outside
Tromso
, in a Fjord where we spent a day in a Cabin along with some cheerful Erasmus students and couchsurfers.

Family Jumping for Christmas
Crest
,
France
I don't remember spending a Christmas with so much snow and wind. It was so wild and freezing cold that we had no more choice but jumping everywhere to warm us up :-)

Jumping in Rila Monastery
Rila
,
Bulgaria
Quoting Wikipedia: "Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of
Bulgaria
's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and it is a key tourist attraction for both
Bulgaria
and Southeastern Europe as a whole."
Jumping in Rila Monastery
It took us 4 hours driving to find that Monastery. It seems that GPS maps of
Bulgaria
are not as accurate as they could be :-)
The monastery is lost in the mountains and I wouldn't like to spend a whole winter here!

Jumping in Sofia
Sofia
,
Bulgaria
Taking advantage of an extended weekend for
All Saints
day, as well as an incredibly cheap flight ticket, I decided to go and jump around Bulgaria !
Jumping in front of Alexandre-Nevski Cathedral
I really enjoyed
Sofia
, the city, the food and the people. The geographic location of Bulgaria makes that country full of many influences: eastern European and post Soviet area (they use wonderful Cyrillic alphabet) but including Mediterranean touches from Greece and Turkey: yogurt and cucumber sauce, pita bread and kebab like meat... so delicious!
Not to mention you can live there very cheaply. For 11 euros a day I stayed in a very peaceful hostel named Hostel Mostel, truly in the heart of the city. The hostel had a huge living room where you could meet many fellow travellers, many of them coming from western Europe and starting their Round the World trip, hence full of great conversations. Oh and did I mention that included in these 11 euros, was free wifi, free diner and beer everyday ? :-)

Jumping in Doha airport
Doha
,
Qatar
Bouh snif, holidays are over. It has been a hell of a trip from Paris to
Shanghai
. So many great memories, new friends and new experiences.
On the way back to Paris we spent 3 hours connecting in Doha. Enough time get a picture in order to get that location pinned on the Blogabond map ! Even if it is with a crappy picture :-)

Jumping at Shanghai World Expo 2010
Shanghai
,
China
It was my first time at a World Expo. And I can so recommend it ! Spending your day(s) going from one pavilion to another, collecting stamps from each of them in your "Expo Passport", virtually traveling the world, chatting with the hosts and getting funny stupid goodies... provided you're in a stupid mood (who isn't ?) that's an awesome experience.
