1st day

Leningrad (NOW ST PETERSBURG)
2 Hours in customs. Got to Hotel (Leningrad)- Great Hotel, Meal of veal stew, red cabbage, cucumber, and saute potatoes. Starters sardine & cucumber and pumpernickle bread.
Lovely view from Hotel Leningrad of river Neva. It is beautiful and you can see the lights on the other side. We have spent some of the evening in the hotel nightclub, where they had a full floor-show - Singing in the rain, I just called to say I love you, etc - Great!
We danced until midnight, Leningrad time (9 o'clock our time)
I'm in the hotel room number 655 with a lovely view of the river, and some duty-free scotch and a free Pepsi which I found.
P.S. The flight was great, no bump and just under 3 1/2 hours.

7-52 am. Took 1st picture of view of the River Neva from the hotel room window. Big slabs of ice floating down.
Breakfast - Some kind of Semolina Slab, slices of fatty sausage, coffe, tea, sour cream, cake, jam

Went on sightseeing tour. Maria, the Russian guide, has a dull voice. We saw, and took photos of the convent, which is intact only on the outside.

Missed my dinner! My watch was somehow 1 hour slow and we turned up too late! We somehow survived. Spent two hours going round the Hermitage Art Gallery. Saw art from all over the world EXCEPT Russia!

We managed to make it to the evening meal! Instant mash with steak and PRUNES! Margaret enjoyed the combination!We went to see the folklore evening, singing and dancing in a brand new theatre in the hotel. A cast of about 50! It was magnificent!
