My Stuff
picking small cities on the map
Am I totally missing something, or can I only choose a city once someone else already has been there? For example, I don't see any way to click of select Twizel,
New Zealand
.
Any advice?

No, it's our problem, not yours. For some reason, the city list that we're using for the site leaves out a bunch of smaller towns in
Australia
and
New Zealand
(*).
I went down the coast of
Australia
last year, and here is what I did to write my reports in Blogabond: I'd start off in the "Maps" tab and simply type the place I wanted to write about into the search box. If it didn't come up, I'd try again with a bigger town nearby and zoom in on that one. Sometimes, we just have the wrong spelling for a place, but every once in a while a town is just missing. There's an "Add Stuff to the Map" link at the bottom edge of the map so that we can add the missing
Twizel
s of the world. Once it's on there, you can click the "write a blog from here" link, and you'll be good to go!
Anyway, I've gone ahead and added
Twizel
to the map. Sorry again to give you such a painful introduction to Blogabond. I hope you have a great time in
New Zealand
!

there's actually a reason why our city data is denser in some places and thinner in others. It was compiled by the US Government in the 1970s, and thus pays extra special attention to things that might have needed bombing in the immediate future. If you zoom into Southeast Asia, for example, you'll notice every rice paddy clearly labeled. I guess that
Australia
didn't pose much of a threat back when the city list came together, so a few of the smaller towns (say, anything smaller than
Brisbane
) got left out!

I did notice that rather than have "
Panama City
, Panama", or "Mexico City, Mexico", it has "Mexico, Mexico", and "Panama, Panama" which is a bit odd. I don't know if you plan to patch the city list to fix things like that.
