Beer has been brewed here for more than 2000 years.

Fair local beers can be found everywhere. The term 'brasserie' used for
cafés means brewery.

The best beers can be found in Alsace (german style beer) and in the
North Pas de Calais region (more belgian style beer). Other regions have
also their local beers. In Corsica, they brew a chestnut beer, in
Brittany a black wheat beer.

There used to be a pub which brew its own beer in Paris (near Richelieu
Drouot). You can order a beer in every cafe. But beer only pubs are
scattered all over Paris. Draft beer is called "biere pression", just
ask for "un demi pression" for a half pint, cheaper when ordered at the bar.

For exemple l'academie de la biere primarily serves belgian beers, but
you can order a large choice of beers from all over the world. It is a
good place to have a snack of mussels and fried potatoes.

Just next to the TGV station in Lille, you will find a brewery with an
extraordinary choice of local and foreign beers.
