La Ruta de las Flores

Santa Ana, El Salvador

We are now on our way back to Guatemala. To Tikal to be exact. Santa Ana is a nice little city, however there is little in the way of restaurants and things to do. We spend yesterday on chicken buses touring though La Ruta de las Flores (the route of the flowers). I expect it would be beautiful at the end of the rainy season but at this time of year it is pretty dry. We did see a few nice flowers and got to smell the fermenting coffee beans while riding the bus, which I guess is unique to this time of year.
We stopped at a cute little town on the way named Juayua. It had more culture than any other place we have been in El Salvador with Mayan items being sold at the market, a huge outdoor food fair and live music in the centre square. Em finally got the shopping bug while we were there. The round trip took up our whole day and as we were driving from Sonsonate back to Santa Ana we saw some beautiful scenary with the volcanos in the background.
All in all El Salvador was great, I guess that's why we spend two weeks here instead of the planned 3 days.
