The descent into Dubai was amazing - pitch black suddenly giving way to an array of lights that seemed to be hanging in the air. After a while - and in consultation with my neighbouring passenger - we worked out that the lights were coming from the many boats out on the water. After a little while these gave way to the lights of the city - for 5:20am local time, it looks like the city never sleeps!
Dubai airport itself is pretty incredible too - like one massive shopping centre with gates that extend as far (and further!) than the eye can see!
I managed to scavenge about six hours of sleep on the flight so I am feeling reasonably human at the moment, helped along by a refreshing shower in a Lounge at Dubai Airport, and a few nibbles including some scrumptious little baclavas and some guava juice which I don't think I've had before. Plus free wifi - yay :)
My flight will start boarding in about an hours time and then I think I've got about another 7 hours or so to Rome, 2 and a bit hours to transfer between terminals, and then another 1 hour flight to Alghero, Sardinia.
Well I think that's all for me for now. Next time I type will probably be from Alghero (unless I end up with time on my hands in Rome airport)
