Towns mentioned in blogs
Hi,
Often when I mention the name of a town in a blog entry, after a while something weird happens. Square brackets appear around the hyperlinked name and sometimes the name of the country its in followed by a / as well. Any way of solving this?

I get this to. And if I don't delete them they keep getting added until I get something like [[[[[[[[[
France
]]]]]]]]]

I finally got to the bottom of why this was happening today, and I've put a fix in place so at least it won't happen again.
Now for the fun part of tracking down all the posts it happened to and fixing them...

Hey, I think I know why this happened to you two, but hardly anybody else.
Can you guys confirm for me that you've been using the Trip Builder to mess with your maps since writing the blog entries in question? I've isolated two ways that this would have happened, only one of which applies to the entries in question. And I notice that you both have little black "waypoint" dots on your maps, so that pretty much convinces me. (I've fixed the problem, so you can continue using the Trip Builder now and it shouldn't hurt anything).
Fortunately, I only found 29 affected blog entries across the whole site, so it should be easy enough to clean up.
Sorry again for the hassle!

Actually while we're on this subject... why does it take forever and a day to save any changes made using the Mapbuilder? Like 10 minutes sometimes.

Ok, thanks, that makes sense. I wondered why not everyone seemed to be affected!

Exactly the same reason. Wow, I hadn't ever noticed it, but thinking about the events that happen when we save a blog entry, yeah, I can definitely see why it might take forever to reorder a trip.
I'll fix that as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for bringing it up!

Usually I'm not reordering anything, just adding one to the end, which I'm sure shouldn't take long if that's all the routine does.

Yeah, it doesn't actually matter. The Save routine for that page simply spins thru all the towns in the list and saves them again regardless of whether they've changed. Since "saving" also meant linking up those place names (which is quite slow), it would try to process each location again, taking forever in the process.
It's fixed at my end now. I'll push it live tomorrow.

Did this change go live? I'm still finding it very slow...
