What were you doing looking at Marx letters at the British Library? Doing serious work, or just wasting everyone else's time and handling the valuable original manuscripts unnecessarily?

This was a comment written to me on my last post. My response is this: who are you? The manuscript police? That's what I thought...find something better to do you bitter old hag.

But, on a more positive note...we went to the Leighton House today and then to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Spent five hours wandering around...we must have found something interesting...I'll put pictures up later this weekend.

I'm heading home to take a nap!

It was a serious question. When you go to a museum or gallery, do you make arrangements to use the study-room to get your hands on original objects? If not, why do in in the British Library? Just so you have something to write on your look-at-me blog?

And do you really think it's unreasonable for them to ask to prove who they are by showing two forms of ID, and trying to prevent thefts by asking you to leave your backpacks in a locker? They have exactly the same security arrangements here in the US, you know. But you probably don't know that -- if you asked to see original Marx manuscripts in most US libraries they would tell you to piss off!

Have a good holiday!

dear jean jenkinson, if your question was a serious question, you really should have used different rhetoric and perhaps phrased the question in a way that didn't make you sound so condescending or presumptuous.

if you must know, i am writing a paper on socialism and marx and william morris..and in case you didn't understand that, it means i had every right (which i would regardless)to use those manuscripts. so to answer your nosey question you posed in the first place...i was doing serious work.

and calling this "my look-at-me blog" is really quite silly because this is how i am keeping track of my travels and letting my family know what's going on here...

when did i once say it was unreasonable for them to ask me for two forms of id? that's right..i didn't..if i was vehemently opposed to something like that, i promise i would have written it. it's not so unreasonable for me to write on here about the differences in american and british culture and what i've been up to seeing as how most of my family has never travelled...especially here.

now that we've gotten all of this squared away, i would greatly appreciate it if you stopped writing on here. you are rude, judgemental and you probably should have something better to do. so, thank you kindly for your remarks, and i wish you a great holiday as well.
