Formatting broken - has it changed? (especially in Chrome)
Hi,
The embedding of photos doesn't seem to work the way it used to. In particular carriage returns are no longer rendered around photos. This makes it very difficult to stop thing looking like shit! It seems to be twice as bad in Chrome, which I use and most of my friends do too.
What can I do? Did we move over to formatting using html tags or something? Am I supposed to be including [left angle] p [right angle] for new lines?
Help!

Strange. I don't think I've touched the formatting code in a long time. I'll check back through the change logs though...
You should be able to force a "clear" between photos with a double carriage return. (Bonus tip: you can add a non-clearing double CR by sticking a space between line breaks)
Could you point me to a blog entry that used to look right but is now misbehaving? I'll Chrome it up and see if I can get to the bottom of things!

I've not noticed it by looking back at old entries, just through writing new ones that the tricks which used to work (e.g. two newlines) don't seem to work any more, and even things like two "center" pictures in a row look like they overlap a bit.
I'll see if I can find an old entry... and also check it out on another PC just in case something screwy has happened just on mine.

OK I'm on another PC and I'm using IE7 and the problem is still there.
Take a wee look at comment 85918 (still draft). I've used loads of newlines after the inserted photos, but the text is trying to fit between them. This definitely didn't happen before.
I'm now going to try the CR trick...

I did a little test and thought the space between CRs tip worked, but then I realised it didn't really (see comment 85920, draft)
Do you still want me to look out older broken ones or is that enough to go on? I'm pretty sure it didn't used to behave like that.

Once again, you're right. I did an innocuous little architecture change a couple weeks back to consolidate some code between projects. During the process, the code that replaces linebreaks got swapped out with a subtly different version from somewhere else.
It's fixed and live now, and images seem to be behaving again. Observe:
