Really major photo issue

Hi,
I seem to have hit a major problem...
some of my photos weren't uploading. By experimentation, I believe this is because they have the same filename as a photo I have already uploaded (if I change the name, they load fine). Obviously most digital cameras (I think!) do repeat filenames once you delete pics, so this is a major bind. I really don't want to have to start renaming all my pics to get them up.

Can this be put right? It's kind of critical.

Hi, I've figured out a way to get round this using my camera software: not ideal though :-).

Not ideal indeed.

This is a tough one, since the behavior you describe is actually intentional. Often, users will forget which photos they've uploaded and send the same one twice. Sometimes, they'll upload a photo, then rotate it and upload it again. In these cases, we just replace our copy of the image and leave the rest of the details alone.

Of course, it gets tricky when cameras start re-using image filenames. Worse still, if you have two photos, both named "Berlin.jpg", and try to upload them, one will overwrite the other.

This one will need a bit of thought. It seems that either way we do it, we'll break things for somebody.

I'll see what I can come up with. Glad to hear you're back up and running though!
