The Neighborhood

Kunming, China

My roommate got a really nice new camera, so he let me have fun with it around our neighborhood. Some pictures are taken by him or others. I actually attempted to take pictures of people so that you all could get a sense of the local population on a regular Sunday afternoon. We started off with lunch at The Chef's restaurant, so you can see his family as well. If you click on some of the pictures, I think you can see my descriptions of them. Unfortunately I don't think they are viewable on the blog post.

i love the picture with you and the blackboard! miss you and we need to skype very soon. why don't you have your own camera miss Globe trotter?! BLAH don't you want to come take finals for me? i am currently writing a ten pager on ADHD. i bet you are eating noodles or at the market or teaching children English or something exciting like that. i'd rather be doing any of those things than sitting in the library for hours. Look, Jeannie signs her messages from "yo mama" just like mine does. I wonder where they got that from.
I love looking at the pictures, and the ones of your apartment, too - it looks like a nice setup! Although I sympathize with you on the no central-heating problem. I personally have heat, but also an apartment designed to keep heat out, not in, which is often problematic/expensive. Also having travelled and stayed in the south of Spain, like Andalucia, where they also seem to believe in eternal Spring/summer (ignoring the fact that 40 degrees fahrenheit is not exactly room temperature), i've definitely huddled through a night or two in multiple layers of clothing with an electric heater on full-blast. I also loved th picture of you & co. outside the restaurant! What luck to get free meals! Th emost I get is free tapas from the guy with the mullet who like my roommate at our favorite soccer-match viewing bar. ;)
I miss you, but it looks like your adventure is definitely worthwhile!! we'll talk again soon.
LOVE YOU!!!!!
