Hi, I realy like what you have done with the Google Maps API... I'm playing around with the API myself, but I haven't been able to find a good geocoder... Where do/did you pull your data from?

The location data is based on the free dataset available from Geonames. It's gone through some thorough scrubbing and been crashed against a couple other city databases to sort out the major cities from the minor ones. The free data was really not all that good, and had hundreds of bad entries. A lot of the cleanup had to be done by hand, so I think if I had it to do over again, I probably would have shelled out the $1000 for data from Meridian or another commercial provider.
