One thing that you (hopefully) don't notice about Blogabond and other sites like us is that over half the blog posts we see are spam. We filter and moderate it all out quickly, but still some of it makes it far enough to require human intervention to kill.

These spammers would absolutely love a way to keep thousands of their friends up to date whenever they posted about their latest herbal cure, and being as persistent as they are, some of those mails would make it out past our filters. And the tough thing about emails is that once they're sent, they're sent. That's actually why we removed the "email this user" feature.

Anyway, I've been putting a lot of thought into this lately, and I think there actually is a way to do it safely. If I find a bit of free time in the next week, I'll see if I can't get it up.
