Wordpress Map

Hi Jason-

First of all, love your map. I've looked at a bunch of options for maps to put on my blog and think yours is the nicest.

I'm making the switch from Blogger to Wordpress and have run into a tiny problem. (First of all, thanks for making it easy to have a link in wordpress since they don't "do" widgets) The map that comes up is in Google's "map" style, but I'd like to have it in "terrain." I've re-saved my map on blogabond as terrain, but it's still coming up as map. Any thoughts?

Thanks again for your map. I dig it. If you get a chance, check out our blog at: www.letterstomilo.com

Cheers!

I'm with you. Frankly, I'm not that happy with how the blog map looks in its Wordpress mode. Worse, there's not that much we can do about it right now.

We're using Google's "Static Maps API" to draw those maps. Basically, it's just a fancy way of asking Google for a map as an image. It's a nice little tool, but it is somewhat limited in what you can accomplish. One of those limitations is that it doesn't give you access to the Terrain or Satellite map types. So until Google updates its API, there's not a lot we can do from our end.

When I get some free time, I'll probably put out a Wordpress Theme with the full map built in. That should solve the problem once and for all. I'll be sure to keep you posted on that.

In the meantime, you could always just move your blog over to Blogabond itself :)

Anyway, good luck on the Silk Roads. I set out to do that itinerary in reverse a couple years back, but got sidetracked by a girl and am now hopelessly embroiled in domestic bliss. Maybe I'll get back there next year, so be sure to write some good advice!

Hi Jason-

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I'm sure you're swamped w/ requests, so I appreciate the time.

Domestic bliss is fantastic - I hope the two of you get to have many fantastic adventures together. I'll be happy to give you any tips when we return so you can see the Silk Road yourself. We leave in 13 days... I can't wait.

Looking forward to your Wordpress template! I'll also put you on my blogroll.

All the best,
CeCe
