Beautiful day in Estes Park. The drive from Boulder is breathtaking and the perfect chance to catch up on music. The Rocky Mountain National Park is vast and beautiful, and filled with wildlife. We saw a herd of about 20 elk. They were huge! Stopped at Penelope's World Famous Burgers on the way home. So delicious. Definitely try the onion rings!

Abbey took us to see the Sleeping Giant from afar. We did not actually hike around the area. But I feel that it is the afar view that really captures the giant at his best. You can see his ribs, the curves of his body as he slumbers. It's really quite breathtaking.

The Sleeping Giant (aka Elk Mountain) is an 8744' peak that stands out prominently above the Elk River just outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Unlike the nearby Zirkels, Park Range, or Elkhead mountains, The Sleeping Giant stands alone and is not distinctly linked to other peaks or ridges.
