Another headache from trying to sell our van

A few days ago we had an offer of $1500 for our car from a dealer just down the road where we are staying. Rubbish price, but it is now low season so no one is buying and the dealer is obviously clearly aware of this so is going to hold out and sell it in a few months when it is high season...

A load of rain, again.

It poured and poured and poured with rain today, so we did nothing again.

Slim Chris!

As it wasn’t raining again today Chris decided to head off fishing and came back empty-handed, of course! Had someone interested in the car and so came to have a look at it, but unfortunately they wanted a manual. What a pain… But check out how much weight Chris has lost! We have been...

A T.V. and sofa day

The big storm hit overnight and was very wet, we left our cool box outside and open and when we got up it had around 25cm of water inside. Glad we chose the camp we did, as the one below us on the River was flooded and everyone had to leave! We settled in front of the TV and didn’t move all day.

Bay of Islands, New Zealand

The Bay of Islands is a beautiful spot in northern New Zeland. It is a large bay with over 100 islands, some inhabited and others uninhabited. We came here by car many years ago and stayed in a delightful motel for several days.

Just Arrived

We arrived on the 12h of November in Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand. After 12 hours of flying Bethany and I were excited to be in our first destination: Paihia, NZ.. just to relax on the beach and read the guidebooks, unwind and decide what we wanted to do. Neither of us had a a plan...

Paihia, ANZAC day, the beach, and the fickleness of cats...

I spend my other days in Paihia visiting Russell - which I hit on ANZAC day, so I watch the RSA parade (and watch the ladies of the historic house have a meltdown when they realise they've hung the NZ flag upside down from the flagpole... oh dear), visit the old Missionary House, which has been...

Livin' it up in the Hellhole of the Pacific

Kia Ora, everyone! After 30+ hours of travel, I finally made it out of the Land of the Morning Calm and into Auckland, New Zealand. After a few days in Auckland to shake the jet lag and get my feet on the ground again, I headed north to Paihia in the beautiful Bay of Islands. A little...

A Massive Comedown

This was our first test of Naked Bus, with whom we had booked our entire ground transport around New Zealand. When we arrived at the bus I showed the bus driver the text message with our reference details, just like the web site said we should. The text messages cost a little extra, but they...
