Tsodilo Hills

After the Delta we stopped for a night at Tsodilo Hills. Its a national heritage site famous for its really old rock paintings. I don't have any real interest in rock paintings but we'll take any excuse to get of the bus and do some exercise at the moment. In addition to this I was pretty confident rock paintings meant there would be an opportunity for rock climbing which is much more exciting.
Happy!
It was a really awesome bush camp in the middle of nowhere. The sunset made the clouds go funny.

After crossing over the border into
Namibia
we reached our camp by afternoon. There were no tourist attractions in the area the tourist attraction was the campsite. Ngepi Camp is set on the kavango River which is teeming with hippos and crocks. The camp has made a name for itself with incredible toilets and showers.

Etosha National Park.... (who needs Bolivia)
Outjo

Namibia
We spent the next couple of days on safari in Etosha
National Park
. We didn't spot any cats other than some lions way off in the distance but we there were tons of grazing animals. In one camera frame you get giraffes, zebra, warthogs, kudu,
Springbok
etc...a bit like a scene from the lion king. It was awesome.
The other fun thing about Etosha is that it has a massive salt pan in the middle of it. This means you can mess around with the perspective on your camera and take pictures such as...
Love hunters cider
Me eating Meg
Tampon boxercize
In the evenings we stayed in a camp in the park. The camp had a flod-lit watering hole next to it so we took down a few ciders, midnight snacks and sleeping bags and sat out under the stars all night watching animals come into feed. At about 3.30 a female white rhino and her baby came in to drink. They stayed with us for a couple of hours. It was awesome to watch them being completely natural. You could see the calf being naughty, getting told off by its mum and then being told to lay down and go to sleeep.

On the way to the coast we stopped at a campsite called Cheetah Park. The owner has 4 domestic hand reared cheetahs. They also have a little yappy dog. The cheetahs thing they are dogs and the dogs think they're cheetahs.

Lots and lots of desert
Spitzkop
,
Namibia
We've been driving through deserts for the last week. The Kalahari first and now the Namib. The driving is awful- really really dusty, but the scenery is out of this world. So vast, really arid and beautiful. The camping has been brilliant because you get to see
Sunrise
and sunset from the same spot.
One problem is does create is wee stops. Its fine for the boys, they just line up facing outwards...
Desert moooney
but for the girls we have to hide round one side of the truck and tell the boys to keep themselves busy.
On Chistmas Eve eve eve we stayed a my favourite bush camp by a country mile- Spitzkoppe. After
Miles
and
Miles
of nothing massive rock formations rise out of the desert. We arrived late afternoon which gave us a couple of hours before nightfall to go climbing yey!!!!
Best bush camp ever

Christmas in Namibia

Here are some pictures from Christmas in
Namibia
. Unfortunately I made the age old mistake of getting too drunk on Christmas Eve. There is no photographic evidence of this night but it involved 2 nightclubs, 2 bars, a drinking session on the beach and far too much white wine.
Anyway I woke up the next day to find 2 stockings at the end of the bed.

Stocking time (still drunk)
I had a terrible hangover/was still drunk but had already comitted to going sandboarding. Sandboarding involves lying on a bit of 6 by 4 and going head first down a sand dune. The MOJOR drawback of it is that there are no lifts so it also involves hiking up massive sand dunes in the heat, which doesn't mix well with a wine hangover. It was really good fun and by dune number 3 the adreneline had made me feel a little bit better. After a couple of epic fails (with a lot of sand in my mouth) I clocked 69 km/hour, which is pretty fast when your face is so close to the sand.

In the afternoon we went down to the beach for drinks, secret santa and sunset...

Sand in my boots, sand in my hair, sand up my nose, sand in my sleeping bag....

Because we needed to make it
Cape Town
in time for NYE we had a couple of days where we had to cover a lot of ground in the desert. It was a really unconfortable jouney, plus 40 heat and very very very dusty. It made for some awesome scenery though and some even better stars. One night I could see Orion, the Southern Cross, 2 planets and the milkyway all in one!
We stopped at some of the dunes along the way to go climbing an get even sandier. The climb was really tiring, took down both Jess and Meg's cameras (lens error- bleep of death), but it gave us another opportunity to do some quite blatent posing.
