Our odyssey begins with 26 hrs travel

Indian efficiency started at Heathrow as Jet Airways called Flight Closing and we arrive to a queue of 200 passengers. In the rush we forgot to get suncream, oh bugger - bring on the burn !

Time to Fly

After finally fitting everything into our bags, we are now all set to go to the airport! Chris' parents gave us a lift to Heathrow and although the traffic on the M25 was pretty bad, we made it with plenty of time to have a quick drink before flying. Very nervous. Very excited, BYE BYE U.K!!

Quick update!

Just a quick update that we're at the airport in London and about to head home to Chicago. The rest of the pictures and videos will be posted once we get home. It's been an awesome time, and I'll be absurdly tired at the end of this. Meanwhile, go USA!

Here. We. Go.

With the first World Cup game starting at 8:30 in the morning, I decided it was necessary to head to the soccer bar down the street to join in the festivities. I wasn’t the only one. Every table was full, with support divided roughly 50/50 between Mexican fans and people cheering against...

day 2

Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Nicholas, Happy birthday to you. Yes it was Nick's Big 50! We went down to the breakfast buffet where surprisingly we all found lots to eat. Nick opened his cards and had the obligatory Photo taken. Then it was off to...

After all the planning and panicing we were finally ready to go. Well, almost ready when Phil turned up to drive us to the airport - Thanks for taking us Phil. Of course when we got to the hotel it was photo in the corridor time etc and then we found that we couldn't get into our room! Nick,...

Made It!

Made it to Heathrow airport. Derek tried to convince the flight attendants to give us some first class sleeping pods, but they just smiled and laughed. We made our way to our seats and found that the one remaining seat in our row was empty! We all settled in, ate our dinners and watched...

Coming home

A long wait at SeaTac International Airport at Seattle, but the Boeing 777 was very prompt and set off more or less on time and landed very close to the scheduled time as well, but neither Barbara or Charlie got much sleep. It was good to see the old country again: complete with the...

Getting to Heathrow

Setting off from home at about 7 am, it was cold and misty. Aurian kindly driving us through the narrow south Gloucestershire country lanes, across the R. Thames and into Wiltshire. There were some interesting hazards: Once we'd climbed up Blunsdon Hill on the new bypass, we got out of...

Back Home!

Just to let you all know that we've arrived home safely. Dad had to pay $25 for his over weight baggage and then was picked up for having liquids in his hand luggage - "I didn't realise sun tan lotion was a liquid!". After briefly getting intimate with a rubber glove it was, rather...
