Greenwood got its name from the name of a house. Long ago people in the area named their houses. One of the first houses built in the Greenwood area was named by the lady of the house. She called her house "Greenwood". The name stuck with the locals and travelers and it has been with Greenwood area ever since. Information obtained from book about the local area. Book now resides in the Greenwood Public Library. EB
