Welcome to my travels. On this site you'll find recent trips and some very old trips. You'll note that for some trips I wrote very detailed reports (at least in the beginning), for others, I didn't even take notes of where I was on what dates. Nevertheless, I've done my best to document, to the extent I can, all of my major trips.

Day 35

Pokhara, Nepal

Walked to Sanaogkot (?) for lunch. Walked down. Almost like Lombard Street -- very crooked. Then to Pokhara. Diner at Mona Lia. Saw cute guy, decided we wanted to meet him. Had brownie at hotel. All in all, trek not nearly as interesting as Thailand. Good views but people not as interesting.

Day 34

Pokhara, Nepal

Woke up sick. Climbed to Kaare for lunch -- leeches everywhere so couldn't stop. Path not as well marked. Our porter (Gahli) waited for me.. Meadow at top. Took shortcut to Kaare. Then easy walk to Nagadanda for eve. Beautiful view o the Himalayas, especially the next morning.

Day 33

Pokhara, Nepal

Leave for trek with our guide, Chandra. Long flat walk through populated area along river (Brahman People) -- lunch at Eden Lodge in Suikhet. Then long steep climb (but well-marked path unlike Thailand) to Dhampus Pass -- top of mountain. Stayed at Sunrise Lodge. Dean and Oliver were there. Had dinner.

Day 32 (continued)

Pokhara, Nepal

Checked into the Kantipur Guest House and made trekking arrangements and flight back to Kathmandu. Walked to airport and New Crystal Hotel. Began to pour. Ate at Guest House. Met Dean and Oliver, fellow trekkers. Then to German Bakery -- Dean was there and we talked about traveling, China, etc.

Day 31

Bharatpur, Nepal

Early morning went on elephant safari thought jungle. Saw only rhinos (7) and possibly a small monkey, but sense jungle was interesting in itself. Then breakfast and very short canoe ride -- saw 2 crocodiles -- and on a short walk saw 3 more rhinos. Walked back with Canadian named Bob (guide, whose name I can't remember, was upset I didn't take Ox cart) and had drink with him and an English girl named Margaret Allen at their place -- the Holiday Inn. We then had lunch and a nap during which 5 more people arrived and I played Agatha Christie, correctly identifying the OB/GYN (from Walnut Creek) and his blond wife. We then took our "jungle walk" - watched rhino from raised blind and stalked spotted deer. A dutch tour group arrived and we all had dinner.

Drove to Chitwan National Park with Suzanne, older woman from Belgium. Saw monkey on way. Great for French. Long drive (rained) then by oz cart, but very scenic, stayed at Jungle Safari Camp. That afternoon, walked through Tharu village -- headdresses like Yao, food like French (escargot and frog legs). watched a man make fish net.

Changed hotels to Tibet Guest House and took morning tour to see animal sacrifices at Dakshinkali, then to monastery and gorge (and another temple with sacrifices) then got off bus to follow line of women in red waiting to go into temple to pray and bathe for Teej Festival. Very hot. Met Don Gittleson on tour -- American living in Honduras.
