Welcome to my travels. On this site you'll find recent trips and some very old trips. You'll note that for some trips I wrote very detailed reports (at least in the beginning), for others, I didn't even take notes of where I was on what dates. Nevertheless, I've done my best to document, to the extent I can, all of my major trips.

Day 4 -- Hanging

Reykjavik, Iceland

Spent the morning just exploring Reykjavik -- stores, museums and shops, before heading home.

Day 3 -- Everything Else

Reykjavik, Iceland

Today was the Golden Circle Tour and all that comes with it: Thingvellir National Park, Gulfoss, and Geysir (which doesn't hold a candle to Yellowstone, btw).

In between, however, was snowmobiling at Langjokull Glacier. I'm not sure I've ever been so cold and wet, but it was also a lot of fun. Time well spent.

Day 2 -- Horses! Light!

Reykjavik, Iceland

Today was horse day. Two rides -- the first, in the morning, was with a large group and mostly walking but beautiful (albeit cold and rainy) weather. The afternoon was just Els, me and a guide and was fabulous. Lots of trotting, some cantering and even a little bit of galloping. Up and down hills, around a lake; beautiful scenery. One of the best rides I've had.

This evening we did get out to search for the Northern Lights and eventually found them. The first stop was quite disappointing -- really just grey swirls in the sky -- but on the way back into town, the bus pulled off into a parking lot, the guide rushed us all outside and then, there they were, beautiful blue and green swirls of light in the sky. I'm not sure I'd make a trip just for the lights, but they were definitely worth seeing.

Day 1 - Blue Lagoon

Reykjavik, Iceland

Left Newark last night, arrived early this morning (very early) and eventually made our way by shuttle bus to the Blue Lagoon. Warm, blue water. Rest. Relaxation.

We had hoped to go searching for the Northern Lights tonight, but it was too cloudy, so I took a walk around town and then hopped into bed and all was good.

Day 15 - The End

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Our last day was,as intended, pretty devoid of anything substantial. Laid out by the pool. Went parasailing. Walked the Old Town for dinner and souvenir shopping. And that's all she wrote.

Day 14

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

It wouldn't be one of our classic Summer trips if we didn't hit at least 3 countries, and today we did that by going to Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina. A formerly war-torn town in a formerly war-torn country, here you can really see why "Yugoslavia" was never really one country, as the Muslim influence here is, while relatively benign (few hajibs, etc.), so contrasting to everything else we've seen. The old bridge is a spectacular site, and we were able to see one of the bridge divers jump, after walking around the small town streets lined with vendors of every kind, from cheap trinkets to some very nice art galleries. All in all, a nice diversion for the day.

Home in Dubrovnik was another evening stroll on our second-to-last day of vacation.
