Vientiane

(Michael) Vientiane, the sprawling Laotian capital and the largest city, is home to about 160,000 people. Here you will find the only convenient stores and the only supermarket in the entire country. After being in Laos for a couple of weeks, it was a little strange to see so many varieties...

Laos?

Day 37 Got up and headed to the Friendship Bridge. It’s the passageway to get to Laos. Got there and there was a guy who helped us get through faster if we took his taxi on the other side of the border. So we did it. Then we probably did the sketchiest thing we’ve all done so far this...

Great food and freaky Buddhas

We woke approaching Vientiane nicely rested, because the night bus was a huge improvement on the Vietnamese torture machines. At last something that is better than Vietnam! Lao night buses having you lying down properly in two layers, like bunk beds. The only potential draw back is that they...

Bye Bye Laos!

Well its been awesome, Laos was all I expected and more, not a bad day in the 3 weeks (except maybe that bus) and to be honest i'm sad to leave. Vientiane is pleasant enough. Its got street lights which was a shock and its really bloody hot. No hills all around its another town on the Mekong....

We Love Laos

We are finally back in Pakse, after spending few days in a little village called Tadlo. Jimmy and I ended up at a guest- house called Mama Pap's. The first impressions were alright, we were quite excited (especially Jimmy) to sleep in a very basic bamboo hut, containing a bed, mosquito net...

Vientiane

After another long busride, but at least on the same bus all the time and not changing 6 times we arrived in Vientiane! Capital of Laos. Despite being a capital it feels more like a big Village than an actual city capital. There is only 200000 people living here, and for a capital that is not...

Slow boat

Took the slowboat down the Mekong river for 2 days and it was worth it to reach the beautiful French influenced town of Luang Prabang. Onwards from here to Vang Vieng for some river tubing and then onto the capital - Vientiane.
