Days 4

Hi Gear Heads- Adventure is well and truly on its' way now with two days of road work under my belt in the cheap car. When I left Peter's house his advice to me was "Start slow and break her in and drive your temperature gauge", wise words, indeed! My goal today was to find a dirt road...

Second and Third Days

Mike's Top Gear Challenge continued.... To recap day 1 I purchased the dirtiest car I have ever seen for $900 from "Cheap as Chips Cars" and I have returned to my hotel to see what I have. Here's what I found in the car that I kept-  $3.00 in change Service Log Book with original...

On the Way Home

Walked back to the Visitor Centre and then drove to nearby Katherine Hot Springs (closed). One more stop at the old Pine Creek Gold Mine, 90Km North of Katherine. Back on the road 5:10pm. Another short stop at Adelaide River and we were back at Darwin just before 7pm.

Too hot to do anything but jump in a pool!

We woke up really early and went to Wyndam to see the 5 River lookout. This is where 5 Rivers all join up into one, but as it is quite dry, the Rivers weren’t flowing very much as it was a hazy morning so there was very little to see, which was pretty disappointing as we had driven out the...

Sweating it out to Katherine - Night 135

Today was primarily a driving day. For every 100 kms we made to the north the shades of green increased a slight bit. Finally around Daly Waters there was standing water on the ground and cumulus clouds in the air. Just 24 hours ago we were in the bleak desert, now we rolled through the lush...

Return To The Alice: Day 2

Douglas River is the kind of place that makes me insanely jealous of the people of Darwin because they have this on their doorstep. Its basically a hot river, so hot in parts it can burn you, you have to be careful where you get in. There's a bit where cooler water flows in to meet the hot water...
