My Stuff
April 16, 2011 - Valleyfield House

Things were a little slow all around today. Not as much traffic in the store and very few people at the Town Hall Open
House
made for any easy day. There were only 4 people at the Open
House
when I arrived at 12:30 after closing the store and no one else came by after that. We ended up closing early at 1:30. Apparently the combination of Easter/spring break and a family day event today at the partially renovated (but gutted) paper mill had everyone's attentions divided.
The paper mill, known as Bank Mill because it printed paper for bank notes, was one of 6 paper mills in
Penicuik
build around 1700 and the only one that hasn't been demolished. Apparently paper was made here for almost 300 years and
Penicuik
was known as one of the foremost papermaking centers in the world. The Bank Mill Project is attempting to restore the mill and create a small-scale paper making venture.
Anyway, I'm fairing fine on my own :) and will be off to
Edinburgh
tomorrow for some sight-seeing...
No photos again today so I just added a few shots of curiosities around the
House
.
Cheers,
Karen
