May 12, 2011 - Grasmere Village
Grasmere
,
United Kingdom
After work today, I took a walk into
Grasmere
to see Dove Cottage, where William Wordsworth lived from 1799-1808 and wrote some of his most inspired poetry. And I can see why...this really is beautiful country. So much so, that I got kind of carried away with taking photos today (around 60)!
So I'll let the photos do the talking today and just lay out the route and highlights. I left
Rydal
and walked toward
Grasmere
on another country lane, went by How Top Farm, and Dove Cottage, then into
Grasmere
Village. I visited St. Oswald's Church where Wordsworth and his wife and children are buried and then continued on out of the village along another country road on the far side of Grasemer Lake and eventually back to a path along the lake, which brought me back to
Rydal
. I didn't label all of the photos, just the significant ones and the different points of travel. Also, you can enlarge any of the photos by clicking on them.
I will definitely take this walk again and plan on stopping at the Rowan Tree Cafe on the river for some tea and cake next time!
Cheers,
Karen
