My Stuff
Day 1
Dublin
,
Ireland
I flew in this morning, went through immigration, took the most expencive taxi ride ever, as in over $100 because of traffic and the euro hating my American money and all, and that was it, I went to registration, got my keys and a brief tour of my apartment, then I was on my own. I unpacked, and napped and woke up to discover I'd left a window open so it was freezing, and I was still the only one of my roommates here so I decided to go exploring. I hopped on a bus to downtown Dublin, or whatever they call it here, and got off when a large number of young/fun looking people got off. I wondered around the Grafton St. area, by Trinity College, it seems to be a very upscale place with lots of really nice stores including one with a dapper old Irish man with a top hat and over coat out front, and the swankiest McDonald's I've ever seen. After a couple hours of wondering I met up with my friend, Ciara, who attends Trinity. She showed me around the area a bit, but really it was just nice to see a familiar face and have someone to talk to. Finally after about four hours of just window shopping and wondering I found the bus and headed back to campus. The amazing thing is that I found the bus, and campus, and then my dorm, I guess I'm just good at retracing my steps, because so far I have no sense of direction here. I'm back in my room now, I still haven't seen any sign of my roommates, but I guess I'll meet them later.
Also, there are so many white people here, no really I've seen maybe a handful of Asians and a total of 4 black people, and I was walking in a busy area at the end of the work day, it's just weird.
