Satu Mare

Satu Mare, Romania

Happily here in one piece! The rail excursion was, let's say, interesting - although maybe AmTrak is no better, I don't know.

Satu Mare is beautiful and so are the people. Eastern Europeans, when they were deciding what hospitality would be like, must have taken their cue from the people of Satu Mare. Amazingly social and willing to strike up a conversation anywhere about anything.

After our business appointment at Dräxlmaier this morning we had lunch at the Hotel Astoria where we enjoyed a breaded pork tenderloin. It was stuffed with cheese and ham and called a cordon bleu snitel, if I recall correctly. Rather slow service but worth the wait.

We are not more than a few kilometers from the Hungarian border. This lovely place is about 100,000 people and booming. The name Satu Mare translates to "Big Village" - but it is has become much more than that. I am hoping our business arrangements work well here so I can return.
