Philippines
The UNESCO World Heritage Center has chosen 5 magnificent sites in the
Philippines
that are world class. They have chosen four baroque churches scattered in the archipelago, the
Banaue
Rice Terraces, Vigan,
Puerto Princesa
Subterranean River
National Park
, and the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park.
The first site are acutally the only four baroque churches in the country, which are the Santa Maria Church in Ilocos Sur,
Paoay
Church in Ilocos Norte, San Agustin Church in Manila, and
Santo Tomas
Villanueva
in
Iloilo
. These four churches are architectural wonders mixing Baroque and Filipino details. The
Banaue
Rice Terraces in the Ifugao mountains are beautiful 2000-year old terraces carved by the ancestors of the Batad indigenous people. Vigan is known for its cobblestone streets and beautiful colonial European architecture. The Puerto Prinsesa Subterranean River
National Park
is a stunning limestone karst landscape with a beautiful underground river. Lastly, the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park is a dazzling and enormous reef of marine sanctuary that is nominated at the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Majestic Ifugao
Banaue
,
Philippines
Majestic best describes the northern
Philippines
province of Ifugao. The famous province is a long drive north from Manila. After passing San Jose, the journey gets more exciting as the route follows the wide Pamapanga River Valley. It rises over the astonishing Dalton Pass, which is 3000 feet high, and descends into the Cagayan Valley heading into the Cordillera mountains.
One of the highlights of Ifugao are the
Banaue
Rice Terraces, which are vast, interconnected strips of rice terraces, which are recognized as one of the 5 beautiful sites in the
Philippines
. Because of its enormous beauty, the governor of Ifugao has made the preservation of this site the highest priority. The people, dialect, and the province are termed Ifugao which means People of the Earth. The people of Ifugao are known to be an independent agricultural society. For the Ifugao, their culture revolves around the rice, which is considered a prestige crop.
