Scottish Chiefs to the Scottish Borders

Brisbane, Australia

Like any good overseas expedition, the start of this one was celebrated with good friends, a few drinks, a small food-fight, a couple of temporary tattoos, one or two tears and some great memories (although perhaps not as many as I would have liked...). My recovery was interrupted by packing and a road-trip from one home, Geelong, to another, Brisbane. I'm in Brissie at the moment, spending time with the family and trying to make my way through the last-minute to-do lists in preparation for d-day next Tuesday (26th).

My so-called 'unplanned' trip is not so unplanned anymore - just secured work in a small town called Melrose in the Scottish Borders. I've been watching the temperature and it hasn't gone above 12 in the last few days - so much for easing my way into UK weather! Some furious googling has revealed that Melrose has a 400 bed hospital (Borders General Hospital - where I'll be working) but a population of just over 2000. Obviously the hospital services a wider area than just Melrose!

Although I kind of enjoyed watching people's surprise, or in some cases, mortification, when I would tell them that I had no idea where I was heading after London, I must admit I'm actually pleased to have a fixed destination for 6 weeks. I imagine there will be plenty of time for 'travelling on-a-whim' as the trip progresses. I'm due to start work on July 2nd so I've had to cut short my initial time in London to just 4 days. I think some of this time will be occupied with organising living / working details but hopefully I'll get an opportunity to look around as well.

Next stop London!

Party on, France...Party on!

Argenton-Chateau, France

Tuesday of week three, and we're all recovering from our big weekend party. Yes, I'm still sober. :) I do not need alcohol to unleash the party geek in me. One of our classmates, Brenda (who is as nice as she is cute and talented) threw a party with her husband Rocco as a little send off for him. He stayed here with her the first two weeks...and was heading back to Florida. He totally decorated their little French rental yard with balloons and candles....and the party was complete with party hats and leis. No theme one could nail down, really....just colorful and festive. See pics.

Sunday night, Anna, Rita and I went to the local restaurant Du Lac, and stayed way past dark. Here's the jest....it's quite a walk from where we live....at the end of a beautiful winding road...that pours out to a lake, filled with ducks and swans (which we feed our bread to). Lovely, huh. Before midnight...it's lovely. After midnight....it's just plain dark!!! It was light when we went. Black when we left. So, we set out...three chicks, two teeny tiny flashlights, and one long, dark road.

Did I mention it goes right by the cemetery? It does. And, that's right where the giant bullfrog jumped out at us from nowhere. Guess how loud we screamed.

I sang the "50 Nifty United States" song I learned in fourth grade, Rita sang opera, and Anna graced us with the greatest song about angels protecting us and the presence of God. Loudly. It apparently worked, because I sit here writing you tonight.

This week we began painting on large canvas, with big brushes...and loads of paint. If things go well....I'll post pics at the end of the week. If you don't hear from me....well...you know.

Love and hugs and harmless frogs (did you know that frogs pee in your hands if you pick them up?).....Kim

weekend fun

Karlstad, Sweden

ok so the past couple of days have been a blast...boo and I have been obsessed with the show the L word and are watching it from the beginning of season 1, kinda couch potatoes. She of course just kept procrastinating her paper to watch it, friday we stayed up till about 2am watching it. Oh got our work out plans and I love it its like all body weight stuff we only use two machines, were gonna get ripped living here. Saturday I met the team down town and we did a lil team bonding with bowling, it was kinda fun actually got hamburgers too. Then we went to the captains house and started the party, when we went out all the babies had to go home the club was cool though it had 4 different dance floors with different kinds of music. I actually saw my fitness coach there. Oh but really quick so we ordered pizza too and they put this like coleslaw/saurkraut on it and it is soo good. Anywho got home at like 4am pretty surprised I was able to find my way home cuz I had no clue where I was. All in all it was a great weekend, today was my recovery day just walked around and layed around haha. Oh so boo and I decided were gonna make a dream/inspiration wall and its going to have a list of our goals for what we want to work on and where we want to be by the end of the 6 months. Then surrounding that is gonna be a bunch of inspirational quotes or pics, anything that will help inspire us. Our main goal with this is the pro league in the states, so were gonna decorate our place with inspiration.
