Lima, between crazy cars and beautiful old town...

Heeeelloooo!!!

Here we are now in Peru!! We arrived a few days ago in Lima... and the first contact with the town was... how to say... hectic!!
We usually always take the local buses to go into town from the airport. So we arrived at the bus stop, and we discovered a very strange system!! A lo of minibuses arrive without any order or announcement, they are full of stuff written on them (which we understood later are names of streets or main avenues), they arrive very quickly and a guy pops his head out screaming something like "arequuiuiuiupou, ppprrraadoo, maarueubinnnnnaa...", gets quickly the few passengers that want to go in and leaves quicker than it arrives.... all that in less than 30 seconds for each bus!!

Very courageous, we asked a guy to confirm which bus we have to take, and we (quickly) hop on one of them... and that´s where the fun starts...
THEY DRIVE LIKE MAD!! Zigzaging between cars and trucks, speeding and then stopping abruptly... and their favorite sport is to press the horn, which makes an incredible noise all over town as all of them do the same!!!
I have seen bad driving in many countries: italy, brasil, lebanon... but this beats it all!!!

Anyway we arrived safely at the hostel (it was more funny than anything!! and they dropped us very close to the hostel!!!), ready to .... SLEEP! As our last few nights were short (noisy hostel and airport sleeping!!)

After sleeping properly, we went around to the the town, first going on the sea side and

then to the hitoric center. And there we discovered some very nice places, with old colonial style.

We especially went to see the san fransciscan church and its museum where you can find

a lot of objects, relics and dresses from the church. We also visited the catacombs that are quite famous in Lima.

The catacombs are build under a convent where monks and nuns used to live. The catacombs, when they were found, had about 25 000 bodies (well bones mainly) buried in them. The tour of the all place was very interesting... especially to learn how the San fransciscans used to evangelise the quechans and other peruvian communities (by singing, changing paintings, mixing the quechan religion to the Catholicism...).
And it was fun also to learn that bodies of nuns were found with featus inside... it was apparently not a very good idea to put monks and nuns together in the same convent ;)

Well, that is about it for Lima, we walked quite a lot in town...

We are now in Cuzco... both very excited to see what the inca ruins of Macchu Picchu look like...

PS: by the way, we have discovered what will be the next CSI after Miami, Las Vegas et New York.....!!! hihihihi !!

Lima, entre voitures folles et belle vieille ville…
Heeeelloooo!!!
Nous voici maintenant au Pérou ! nous sommes arrivés il y a quelques jours à Lima et le premier contact avec la ville a été… comment dire … très mouvementé !! D’habitude, nous prenons toujours les bus locaux pour nous rendre de l’aéroport au centre ville. Nous voilà donc à l’arrêt du bus et nous avons découvert un très étrange système !! plein de minibus arrivent sans prévenir, avec une foule d’inscriptions dessus (nous avons compris plus tard qu’il s’agissait des rues ou des principales avenues), à toute vitesse et un gars sort sa tête en criant quelque chose comme « arequiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii …………..) prend rapidement les quelques passagers qui veulent monter et quitte l’arrêt encore plus vite que lorsqu’il est arrivé… tout ça en moins de 30 secondes pour chaque bus !!
Très courageusement, nous avons demandé à un gars de nous confirmer quel bus nous devions prendre, et nous sommes montés (rapidement) dans l’un d’eux…. Et là commence la rigolade… ILS CONDUISENT COMME DES DINGUES !! zigzaguant entre voitures et camions, accélérant et freinant brutalement… et leur sport favori est de klaxonner, ce qui provoque un bruit incroyable dans toute la ville du fait que tous font la même chose !! j’ai déjà vu des façons de conduire épouvantables dans d’autres pays : Italie, brésil, liban… mais ils ont la palme !!!! enfin ! nous sommes arrivés sains et saufs à l’hôtel (c’était d’un drôle !! et ils nous ont « jetés » tout près de l’hôtel) prêts à… DORMIR ! les quelques nuits précédentes ont été très courtes (hôtel bruyant et nuit dans l’aéroport !!)
Après avoir bien dormi, nous avons fait le tour de la ville, d’abord côté mer et puis le centre historique. Nous avons découvert quelques très belles places dans le style colonial. Nous nous sommes plus particulièrement attardés à l’église franciscaine et son musée où on peut y voir un tas d’objets, de reliques et de vêtements appartenant à l’église. Nous avons aussi visité les fameuses catacombes de Lima.

Les catacombes sont construites sous un couvent où vivaient les moines et les religieuses. Il s’y trouve environ 25 000 corps (principalement des os !) enterrés. C’était particulièrement intéressant… et surtout d’apprendre comment les franciscains évangélisaient les quechans et autres communautés péruviennes (par des chants, en changeant les peintures et en mélangeant la religion quechan au catholicisme…) et le comique fut d’apprendre que les nones portaient des fœtus… (apparemment, ce n’était pas une très bonne idée de faire cohabiter des moines et des religieuses dans le même couvent !!).
voilà pour ce qui est de notre visite de Lima. Nous avons beaucoup marché dans la ville…
Nous sommes maintenant à Cuzco… tous les deux très excités de voir à quoi ressemblent les ruines du macchu picchu …

Moi Danielle, je dis « désolée » mais je ne comprends pas ce que nos globetrotters veulent dire dans leur PS, mais ce doit être rigolo !!!!!
