Go East!

Jinja, Uganda

From Cameroon we flew out of Douala on Thursday. We have always planned to fly across the Congo and other Central African countries to get to Uganda and start the East leg. But what we didnt expect is that we will have a days stop over in Joburg. My flipping kief pal from back in the day came to fetch us from the airport and we had a legend time. But to be honest, Joburg and South Africa is really much more advanced than anything we saw in West Africa. It was like we were on another continent!

We flew from SA to Uganda on Sunday and descending on the vast in-land ocean like Lake Victoria, we knew that we were in for something special in Uganda. We are literally on the Equator and have had a cloud break every night so far around 3-5am. We are in the town Jinja (pronounced as a fusion of 'ginger' and 'jihad' !!! ) getting ready for 'probably the best grade 5 rapids in the world' on the source of the Nile River. We are in the valley of the origin of the Nile and its as awesome as it sounds! We leave for the river tomorrow so more to follow soon. But with only 4 countries to cover in 6 weeks (the second half of the trip) we are planning to hit the slowdown button and enjoy the space more. West Africa seemed a bit rushed at times and we are stoked to have this time in the East now!
