Chris and Em's Adventure

a travel blog by Chris Pagett

My Girlfriend Emily and I have embarked on a Central American Adventure. We are traveling to from Cranbrook, B.C., Canada to Cancun, Mexico. After we land we get the hell out of there and head down through southern Mexico to Guatemala then to Belize. Side trips to be determined. It's a six week trip where I'll be posting our adventures about once a week. I hope you enjoy and are inspired to travel.

La Ruta de las Flores

Santa Ana, El Salvador

We are now on our way back to Guatemala. To Tikal to be exact. Santa Ana is a nice little city, however there is little in the way of restaurants and things to do. We spend yesterday on chicken buses touring though La Ruta de las Flores (the route of the flowers). I expect it would be beautiful at the end of the rainy season but at this time of year it is pretty dry. We did see a few nice flowers and got to smell the fermenting coffee beans while riding the bus, which I guess is unique to this time of year.
We stopped at a cute little town on the way named Juayua. It had more culture than any other place we have been in El Salvador with Mayan items being sold at the market, a huge outdoor food fair and live music in the centre square. Em finally got the shopping bug while we were there. The round trip took up our whole day and as we were driving from Sonsonate back to Santa Ana we saw some beautiful scenary with the volcanos in the background.
All in all El Salvador was great, I guess that's why we spend two weeks here instead of the planned 3 days.

More Mayan Magic

Tikal, Guatemala

We made it to Tikal. A four hour bus to Guatemala city from Santa Ana and an eight hour overnight bus to Flores got us in at five this morning. We booked a ride to Tikal for six and after breakfast we were checking out the ruins by 8:30am.
They are as amazing as Palenque only there are a lot more ruins and the big temple are huge. The tallest one is about 65 metres high, siffice to say we did a lot of climbing. I took us five hours to hike through the ruins and we could have spend much longer there if we were really going to explore everthing.
Now that We´ve done Tikal it´s off to Chichén Itzá for the last leg of our ruins travels. It will be another long travel day that starts at six tomorrow morning and ends at possibly ends at Chetumal 12 hours later. We´re not sure if we will stay there tomorrow night or move on up the coast a bit.

We´ll try to get some pics post while we are in Mexico. Internet seemed much better there.

A night in Atlanta

Atlanta, United States

Spend the evening catching up with an old high school friend.
Although it has been 12 years since we saw each other last, it felt like no time had passed.
