My Stuff
Killing Time
Nelson
,
New Zealand
I rolled off the ferry in Picton at about 5.30am and began the drive towards Nelson. Yeah yeah I know Nelson is a tiny bit out of the way of Christchurch which is where I'd be meeting my sister in a couple of days but despite all this new found inner peace happy happy joy joy bollocks I'd still take company over a night on my jack. Nils who I used to work with at Family was over Nelson way so I was heading over to chill with him for a few hours.
As I drove west it started to get light so I pulled over to watch the sun rise over the Marlbrough Sounds and get eaten alive by mosquitos. Kind of like a symbolic new start an all that. Not getting eaten by mozzies, just the
Sunrise
bit.
Symbolic New Start
I rocked up, checked into my backpackers and was told I could walk up to the Centre Of
New Zealand
in about half an hour from there so off I trotted to check it out and whilst it's definatly more accessible than the centre of
Australia
its still at the top of a big fucking hill.
No surprise there then. Plus I decided to do it on the hottest day in the world ever so by the time I get to the top I was sweating like a paedophile in a Barney suit. As I collapsed at the top an older couple rounded the corner hardly even out of breath. The shame. I really need to do something about my fitness levels ay.
Nelson is billed as the sunniest place in
New Zealand
and it didn't disappoint, today was scorching hot, definately not the kind of weather to be wandering up hills in. More of a sit in a beer garden pressing glasses full of ice to your face and drinking too much beer kind of weather so as soon as Nils rocked up we did just that until the combined lack of sleep between us got the better of us and we caved.
I shouldn't be allowed to live opposite pubs. Far too lethal.
